My A-ha Moment Over the Weekend

It’s Monday and it’s the kick-off to a new, fresh week! Right??

Can I be totally honest with you? For me, it doesn’t feel so fresh. After almost a year of living in pandemic times… I don’t know about you, but lately, I’ve been feeling some kind of funk I couldn’t quite name until now.

Over the weekend, I was in community with some beautiful women writers of color. We gathered virtually over coffee and talked about anything and everything —from writing (or not writing, whatever the case may be) to “what the heck is social media for?” to the monotony. Oh! The monotony!

To this last one, I thought: oh, hell yes! That’s exactly it!

This is what I’ve been feeling the past couple of months. This weird stuck-ness that I haven’t named because I haven’t noticed. I’ve just been living in one continuous blob of sameness. Same four walls. Same people I interact with in my house. Same grocery store experience (run in, run out). Same walk around the neighborhood (less frequently lately with all of the snow). Same. Same. Same.

Now, yes, I am probably doing much better than the old me would have because of my daily meditation practice. But the writing?? Oh man, does it feel flat! Empty, even!

During the coffee gathering, one woman asked aloud: “Do I even want to be writing?”

Oof. That landed pretty solidly with folks.

How do you keep going? Keep writing? How do you create new energy in yourself? How do you infuse a little more zazz in your writing processes? Shake off that monotony?

Well, one way is to do things differently and do different things!

As you might already know, this coming weekend (Feb 27-28, 12-2pm ET), I’m offering a 2-day workshop called Write to Heal. The idea of this workshop is to identify our traumas and hurts as a way to get through blocks. But this as also an opportunity to break through the monotony! Part of the healing process* is about breaking away from what’s familiar and comfortable. Participating in this workshop will help you shake things up a bit, throw away the usual writing routine, and encourage a lot of PLAY!

(*Maybe you’re saying to yourself: “I really don’t have any traumas to heal.” Or “I did my own healing work. I’m good.” Don’t let that stop you from joining in on the fun!!)

Now, registration closed this past Friday, but because of this new ah-ha moment I had over the weekend, I felt compelled to re-open enrollment for just a quick 36-hour flash, so that more folks can break the monotony, shake off these pandemic blahs and find their writing spark again!

Do you even want to be writing?

The answer is YES! HELLS YES!

Because if you don’t write your story, some white person will do it for you —and get it wrong AND cash in. Don’t let that happen!!

Join me for two soul-sparking days to rev up your writing and remember why you do this important work!

Don’t delay! Registration closes on this second-chance opportunity TOMORROW Tuesday, Feb 23rd at 9pm ET!
